The School of Sciences is dedicated to research and teaching about scientific knowledge and technology in its social context. The overall objective of the School is to provide practical and theoretical grounding in technologies and wider knowledge relevant to the energy sector for engineers and other professionals as well as to equip students with the necessary leadership skills required to function in the technological world. Through its teaching, research and extension, the School plays a notable role in building the emerging discipline of Science & Technology Studies (STS) in Ghana and the World at large.

DEPARTMENT OF BASIC AND APPLIED BIOLOGY

The main objective of this Department is to conduct competitive research and produce high-quality graduates and scientists who are fit for industries and research institutions. The Department researches a wide range of topics and targets both fundamental and practical applications of applied biology. Research activities are organized broadly in the following fields: Haematology, Histotechnology, Microbiology, Chemical Pathology, Molecular Biology, Genetic Sequencing, Nanotech-Biodiagnostics, Diagnostic Imagery, Public Health, Infectious Disease Control, Neglected Tropical Diseases, Non-Communicable Diseases among others.

DEPARTMENT OF CHEMICAL SCIENCES

The Department of Chemical Sciences engages in teaching, research, consultancy, community service, and outreach programmes. The Department envisions to become a leading Department recognized for its excellence in research, innovation, scholarship, and collaboration. The mission of the department is to foster and nurture frontiers in the Chemical Sciences by attracting astute faculty and top-calibre students that will strive to provide solutions to critical energy and natural resource challenges in Ghana and beyond.

The Department of Environmental Management (DEM) is mandated to build competencies and promote teaching, scholarship, research and outreach programmes aimed at solving problems that are critical to the development of the nation. The Department has research interests in:

  • - Fire Safety and Disaster Management
  • - Environmental Impact Assessment &Auditing
  • - Environmental Policy Analysis, Law & Governance
  • - Environmental Risk Analysis & Management
  • - Natural Resources (air, land, water & mineral resources) Management
  • - Climate Change and Sustainability Management
  • - Solid Waste Technology and Management
  • - GIS & Remote Sensing Technologies/Geospatial analysis
  • - Ecological Economics & Modeling.

Its programmes include Diploma in Fire, Safety and DisasterManagement; BSc Natural Resources Management (with an option in Land Reclamation and Restoration); and BSc Fire and Disaster Management.
